Let’s pretend you’ve hypothetically derailed your Hakuba holiday with an ill-fated stack on the slopes, collision with a tree, or slip on an icy road.

You’ve seen the Doctor for an X-Ray, he or she has given you a brace, sling or cast to hold your broken bits together and you’re sitting at the lodge watching Netflix on your phone.

What are the benefits for seeing a Physiotherapist at this stage of your injury?

We can separate the benefits into four categories

  1. Pain Management
  2. Regaining Mobility
  3. Safety While Travelling (DVT risk)
  4. Early Rehabilitation

Pain management

Remedial massage can be great for decreasing swelling, releasing tight muscles and decreasing pain.

Our state-of-the-art GameReady Cryotherapy and Compression unit can drastically reduce swelling and pain with just a 30-minute treatment.

Regaining Mobility

Any injury to the lower limb puts a ready dampener on ease of movement, particularly with heavy luggage.

Our range of boots, prosthetics and braces assist in stabilising your injury so that you are able to weight-bear, and get around a little easier.

We even have deployable spikes for the ends of crutches to keep you safe on icy roads!

Safety While Traveling (Minimise DVT Risk)

Deep Vein Thrombosis is a condition where poor circulation in your lower limb can cause blood to coagulate and form blood clots.

These clots can then pose a serious risk to your health if they travel from the large blood vessels in your legs to smaller blood vessels in your brain, heart or lung, causing a blockage and risking a stroke, heart attack or pulmonary embolism.

The risk of DVT drastically increases with a lower limb injury, due to increased swelling and bleeding from your injury.

The risk can be reduced through a few different means.

  • Anti-coagulant medication
  • Compressions garments e.g. travel socks
  • Cryotherapy and compression (we use our GameReady unit for this)
  • Drainage massage techniques

Early Rehabilitation

Whether you’ve injured your shoulder, knee or something else, medical research has shown us that quality early rehabilitation leads to the swiftest and most effective recovery.

Even if you think you’re headed for the operating table, maintaining muscle strength and range of motion without compromising the injured tissue can make your post-operative journey a hell of a lot better.

If you’re still not sure if Physio can help you save your holiday, send us a message or give us a call/WhatsApp!
