A medical crisis while on holiday? Here’s a list of services that can help dispel any medical complaints that arise while in Hakuba:
- Doctors
- Pharmacists
- Physiotherapists
- Hospitals with Emergency Departments
We’ll post further blogs about all of these services in the coming weeks.
Doctors
Hakuba has two Medical Centres – the Shintani Clinic and the recently opened Hakuba International Clinic.
Shintani Clinic
Is a little further away from the tourism centres, and is the medical centre of choice for the locals due to its affordable prices. Family run by Dr Shintani and his son (Dr Shintani), it’s a first-come first-served kind of operation so it pays to get there early if you’re hoping to be seen quickly. Speaking of paying – make sure to bring cash as card payments will not be accepted! The Shintani Clinic has imaging modalities including X-Ray, CT and Ultrasound.

Hakuba International Clinic
The latest medical centre to open up in town, it’s conveniently located between Happo and Echoland and their practitioners all speak fluent English. Perfectly set up for injured tourists – be prepared to pay tourism prices for services (see their Google reviews for on indication of how much). These guys are happy to accept card payment and also require no appointments – just turn up and wait for the next available Doctor! HIC has imaging modalities including X-Ray and Ultrasound.

The Inside Word
Japanese Doctors are great, very thorough, and we’re lucky to have such great practitioners in Hakuba. However, as Physiotherapists – one of their shortcomings is ongoing patient care – we see many knee ligament and cartilage injuries (such as ACL, MCL, meniscus injuries) just X-Rayed, crutched up and sent packing – what about the pain management, the swelling management, the rehabilitation? That’s where we come in!
If you’re still unsure whether you need to see a Physio, a Doctor, or both – pop into the clinic or give us a call or WhatsApp.
